Knitted Hanging Towels

I like putting a hanger on the full towel. I fold the towel in half and make sure the edges are even. Then I use a crochet hook to pick up 41 stitches evenly along the folded edge. Sometimes I end up with less and sometimes I end up with more. I just add or subtract on my first row of knitting. Because I am using the whole towel, I play a safety pin on the left hand corner to mark the right side of my towel.

I work all rows in knit and decrease two stitches on the pin side of the towel (every other row) until there are only 9 stitches left.

I then knit the 9 stitches until I have completed 17 ridges or 34 rows. The next row (which should be the pin side) I knit 3 stitches and then bind off 3 stitches, and knit the final 3 stitches. This is the first row of my button whole.

The next row I knit the 3 stitches and then cast on 4 stitches and knit the final 3 stitches for a total of 10 stitches.

Work four more rows of knitting on the 10 stitches and bind off.

Then you can sew on a cute button and hang your towel.
